Measurement of the Thermal Spectrum of Hawking Radiation from Analog horizon
William Unruh
British Columbia University, Canada
In 1974 Hawking predicted that black holes should radiate thermal radiation with a temperature given by the geometry of the horizon. In 1980 I suggested that this was a far more universal phenomenon and applied to horizons in many other situations, In 2010 we at Univ of BC measured the spectrum of the quantum radiation from a horizon to surface waves in water flow, by measuring the amplification of waves which impinged on that horizon. The spectrum of the associated quantum noise was shown that it would be thermal and Temperature determined by the characteristics of the flow as expected from the above arguments.
