YPF will combine scientific sessions with career development and networking opportunities to provide participants with:

  • Networking, scientific presentations, and social events with leading Brazilian and American physicists working in academia and industry
  • Career development sessions on publishing in peer reviewed journals
  • Panel discussions on university-industry cooperation
  • Scientific parallel sessions and poster sessions with international peers

Application Information
Deadline: Friday, November 20, 2015
Early career scientists who hold permanent positions at institutions in Brazil and the United States and who are interested in attending this event should submit an online application online at one of the links below. Applicants are required to provide the following information:

Space is limited, so apply early! The cap on attendees is 40 (20 from each country). Physicists from Brazil without any experience in the United States are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants will be informed of decisions by mid-December.

Selection Committee for Brazil applicants
The applications from the Brazil side will be reviewed by a committee appointed by the Brazilian Physics Society, composed by:
Professor Marcelo Knobel (IFGW, UNICAMP)
Professor Cleber Renato Mendonça (IFSC, USP)
Professor Armando Paduan (IF, USP)
Professora Belita Koiller (IF, UFRJ/SBF)

Travel Assistance
If you plan to attend the APS March Meeting 2016, there should be no additional travel expenses beyond two extra nights at your hotel. Some financial support is available to assist with two nights of hotel costs. For applicants from Brazilian institutions, some financial assistance will also be available for travel. Early career researchers in the state of São Paulo, Brazil who have Young Investigator Awards (Jovem Pesquisador) from FAPESP should contact the foundation at dircien@fapesp.br. Applicants outside the State of São Paulo should contact their state agencies.

Program
Senior physicists will present plenary talks to the early career scientists, followed by parallel sessions with American and Brazilian participants presenting to each other. In addition a, a poster session/networking reception will allow participants to discuss their research with not only their international peers, but also with leading physicists working in industry and academia along with distinguished VIPs from SBF, FAPESP, and APS. Throughout the YPF, participants will discuss their work and connect with potential partners, leaders, and colleagues in a smaller, more intimate setting than the larger March Meeting will allow. All participants will be expected to participate scientifically, either through presenting their research during a parallel session, or presenting a poster during the poster session/networking event.

APS 2016 President Laura Greene will provide a session on “Publishing in Peer-Reviewed Journals,” a session that she has given to international audiences of young scientists around the globe. In addition to the scientific presentations and poster session, panel discussions on professional development and university-industry cooperation will be tailored to the interests of both American and Brazilian early career scientists.
